INSPIRE YOURSELF

Abbey Lee, photographed by Phil Oh

2011 is about to finish, but a new amazing year is waiting for us. Probably, right now you are already thinking about what you like or dislike about the last year and how you can change it. Maybe like me, you are writing your New Year resolutions or maybe you are just thinking of changing your mind. An idea: what about changing your concept of fashion?
I have found two quotes in the ‘State of Independence’ fashion report from the January issue of ELLE UK that are inspirational enough to start with. Use them!
“Style is an attitude. It’s not what I wear, it’s who I am. Today I’m a Miu Miu girl in green and white checks. Tomorrow who knows? That’s the joy of it, the art of it, the love of it.”
“Dress for yourself. Not for him, not for fit in –for you. There’s no such thing as a bad day for a Gucci dress.”

ENTHUSIASM, THIS IS THE WORD

17 of November. Gran Vía. Eight o’clock in the morning. Something is attracting all the attention in Madrid. A dress. Just a dress? No, a Versace’s. Versace for H&M, how a great news. Days and days surfing the net in order to find the most exclusive dress, a dress that, luckily, you will find in the shop the 17 of November. You will look at it, you will touch it, you will buy it. Enthusiasm, this is the word. After years of leafing magazines, at last you can touch one of your favorite designer clothes, though the quality is not the desirable, though you pay extra coin just for the label. But, it is worth it, isn’t it?

A lot of controversy is around every of the designer collections that H&M prepares every year. Quality, price and fame are some of the elements that people around the fashion world debate every time these collections are out. Quality is an important issue when buying clothes since the important thing is the way clothes are made not the price. But, what happens if, despite spending more money, the quality is not the appropriate? Unfortunately, the quality of any of the dresses Alber Elbaz designed for H&M last year is not so different from the one of the basic t-shirts we all have in our wardrobes.

WHO WAS THE FIRST?

All of us would always like to know where trends come from. It is surprising to see how fast trends come and go, and how they change depending on…who? There could be countless ways of creating trends, and all of them are valid. It is easy to think that all fashion trends come from catwalks, then fashion editors, celebs and bloggers follow them until everybody on the street is influenced by these new trends. But, is it actually that easy? Probably not.

HAPPY PEOPLE!

When summer turns the corner, our boring and cold clothes disappear mysteriously. They are afraid of hot temperatures…and afraid of those people who are able to transform these monotonous clothes into incredible ones. It is true that these original people are as creative in summer as they are in winter but they are more likely to have better ideas in this relaxing season. And all of us can prove it, we are no stressed, we have no obligations at all; we are definitely happier. And “happy” is the best adjective that defines the outfits that appear on this set of photos I have found in some blogs. I am sure they will inspire you in these warm and delightful days!

WE LOVE THEM!

We hardly find men who like going shopping or talking about fashion, they just ignore clothes, magazines, blogs and catwalks. Well, this is what almost all of women tend to think about them and their relation with fashion, but is it actually true? Fortunately not! In the same way that we find women who do not like fashion (more less than more!), we do find men who like fashion. And, are these types of men known by their good taste regarding clothes? Yes, of course! However, any men can become a gorgeous fashion icon if he finds what makes him totally special from others.

GOOD CHANGES? WE'LL SEE...

What is happening in the Fashion World? Tiredness, monotony,or...controversy? Several changes are happening right now in this impredictable world, an amazing designer leaves his fashion house, an other great one is dismissed, and a big woman leaves her magazine. Three important people that, for one or another reason, have changed their jobs (or have been "invited" out, who knows...). Three people, three different reasons, but are changes good?

COLOUR YOUR CLOTHES, COLOUR YOUR MIND

October 2010. Christian Dior catwalk. Galliano showed us fifty colourful outfits; pink dresses, orange shoes, blue bags and green necklaces. October 2010. Jil Sander catwalk. XXL blazers and long skirts joined Galliano's colourful trend. Wow! It seems like almost all designers want us to use orange, pink and blue in our outfits this summer. Coincidence?

THE MEANING OF FASHION

Have you ever thought about the meaning of Fashion? Or, better: Have you ever asked yourself what fashion means to you? Probably you haven't, it's normal. These aren't easy questions, and not just uneasy but dificult. Maybe you just follow trends or buy clothes because you think this is "fashion", but if you pay attention you'll realise that Fashion is more.

Fashion is the way everybody has to express himself/herself, and everybody can express their personality through Fashion. But, maybe you'll ask me that not everybody is trendy, not everybody seems to be fashion. Yes, but does it matter? Actually, it doesn't! Fashion is art, is the artistic way everybody has to express their feelings and personality, and everybody is free to do it in their own way. Some people are less fortunate than others in how they wear clothes or in the way they put colours together, but in the end they are showing who they are.

So far, I've talked about the artistic face of Fashion, but this is not only all I can say about this art. So, if Fashion is personal, why does everybody dress with the same clothes? They aren't diferent or personal, they're copies!, you would wonder. And again, you're rigth! Why? They see it as a way to be popular or cool in their group of friends, for them is competition, they are supposed to be better if they wear the last jacket or the last skirt. I imagine that these people are always buying clothes and always criticising people's "no-cool" clothes. And, yes, I addmit that I was one of those obsessed girls, but when you grow up you realise that you aren't like others so, why do you have to dress like them? It has no sense! And, of course, nobody has to imitate you and your clothes, they're not your clons.

Now, you will ask, if I cannot copy anybody, how can I do in order to be well dressed? Just follow yourself, I'm sure that you are a wonderful person who's able to think on their own, and who's able to listen what s/he really likes. Because, remember, as I've said, everybody is supposed to follow Fashion, but their Fashion, not other's. However, it is also necesary to know which are the trends that designers, stylists, bloggers, magazines, shops or ordinary people create every season. All of them could be your inspiration, and you can learn of them and create your own fashion.

In conclusion, I can say that Fashion is the way we express ourselves. Fashion is art, so let the artist you have inside come out and enjoy Fashion; because Fashion is creation, not competition.

Maybe, these could be the reasons why I've decided to write this blog (my third one! all the previous ones have failed!!), because it's time I add my point of view to this Fashion World. Because, as you can imagine, I love fashion , and I'd like to share my passion with all of you. I don't really know which way this blog is going to take, but I hope it will be useful for you. Enjoy it!
