WHO WAS THE FIRST?

All of us would always like to know where trends come from. It is surprising to see how fast trends come and go, and how they change depending on…who? There could be countless ways of creating trends, and all of them are valid. It is easy to think that all fashion trends come from catwalks, then fashion editors, celebs and bloggers follow them until everybody on the street is influenced by these new trends. But, is it actually that easy? Probably not.
Nowadays, there are a lot of people involved in the fashion industry, from smart designers to fashion editors and stylists. All of them are influent people; we admire them because of their designs or their innovative ideas. Thus, there is no doubt, they are experts and we can trust them. But sometimes it is difficult to know if they are actually who impose all the trends or if they just develop little trends that already exist. Everybody looks for inspiration, even designers and fashion editors. They look for all kinds of ideas in movies, music, countries and people like you. So, are these ideas the origin of trends, then?
In the fashion industry, movies, music or different life styles are very important in order to create a trend; these elements are necessary to give a trend the aspects that it should have to be special enough. But, these movies or songs were probably created in order to be seen or listen, and if the clothes used in an old French movie are suddenly trendy is because someone decided so. So people decide what is going to be trendy in a particular moment. Following this idea everybody could create a trend, even you...
Our lives are like those movies and those songs, we are changing all the time and our style changes too. Like designers, we also need inspiration. We are too busy with our daily lives to be always paying attention to what a designer says, for that reason it is probably our own life what inspires us the most, our life style, our habits and the people closest to us. For instance, if we see someone in our job wearing an interesting crop top and then another one wearing something similar we are likely to copy them, and if we do it everyone could do it as well. This way, crop tops would be something new that everybody in a circle of friends or in a small city would wear. Is this a new trend? Yes. These people, for one or another reason, decided to try this original and vintage top that, suddenly, is a new little trend because in a certain moment, everybody started to wear it. But, as I have said before, everybody needs inspiration, even the person who started wearing this crop top. But now, we have the same problem again, and this time is as difficult to find an answer as before. Each person is different, and there could be someone who finds Lagerfeld’s designs very inspirational and other one who looks for inspiration in the countries she or he has visited.
The surprising thing about these little trends created unconsciously is that, in nearly a year, we can see these trends in all the fashion weeks and in all magazines, but why? Because the distance between little trends and big designers’ trends is surprisingly small. Nowadays there are a lot of people who work traveling around the world in order to found out what normal people wear to make a new big trend of it. These coolhunters, plus the thousands of bloggers that everyday show their ideas to the world, make the fashion industry a huge world that is constantly changing, a world that is an inspiration itself. Both people and designers are part of a big circle which does not have neither a start nor a finish. We cannot say that one girl was the creator of the crop top trend, because we do not know the ideas hidden behind this girl, we will not never know if she saw an old film or if she saw another girl wearing a crop top and she just copied her. Because, as I have said, the fashion industry is a huge and complicated world itself.
After these little reflections, I have reached a conclusion: all the people in the entire world (not just in the fashion industry) collaborate consciously or unconsciously in the complicated process of creating a trend. And it does not matter if you are an important designer, a cool stylist, a famous blogger or a simple student, everybody is likely to be copied, and everybody is likely to copy others, because we all are inspiration for others. Knowing this, it is impossible to guess what is going to be the next hot trend, it depends on…everybody?

Probablemente no.

I like the way you write, you're an intelligent person .)

And the thing about the trend creating has always been a bit mysterious... I guess you're right. But famous people still have probably a bigger influence on fashion development...
