ENTHUSIASM, THIS IS THE WORD

17 of November. Gran Vía. Eight o’clock in the morning. Something is attracting all the attention in Madrid. A dress. Just a dress? No, a Versace’s. Versace for H&M, how a great news. Days and days surfing the net in order to find the most exclusive dress, a dress that, luckily, you will find in the shop the 17 of November. You will look at it, you will touch it, you will buy it. Enthusiasm, this is the word. After years of leafing magazines, at last you can touch one of your favorite designer clothes, though the quality is not the desirable, though you pay extra coin just for the label. But, it is worth it, isn’t it?

A lot of controversy is around every of the designer collections that H&M prepares every year. Quality, price and fame are some of the elements that people around the fashion world debate every time these collections are out. Quality is an important issue when buying clothes since the important thing is the way clothes are made not the price. But, what happens if, despite spending more money, the quality is not the appropriate? Unfortunately, the quality of any of the dresses Alber Elbaz designed for H&M last year is not so different from the one of the basic t-shirts we all have in our wardrobes.

However, the issue of quality is something totally predictable since H&M will reamain H&M either way, and all the clothes are made with similar materials. Which does difference these collections from the rest is the price. A dress does not cost twenty euros any more, now its price is seventy euros. And now you will pay two hundred euros for a leather jacket instead of sixty. However, as low quality, the high price is expected. Everybody knows that we pay for the label (in this case, for a Versace label), but, well, designers have to make a benefit of it, haven’t they? They gain fame and advertising; they make a profit of the collections without doubt.

So, low quality, high price, high benefits for designers. Ok. But the enthusiasm that comes to us when one of these collections arrives to H&M does not go unnoticed. And yes, it is true that the seam will unravel in two months, but I will still be the happiest person of the world with my fantastic Lanvin dress. And yes, Sonia Rykiel has gained a lot of fame but I will still be excited each time I wear my 8 euros pink bracelet. Besides, the Versace collection ads that appear right now in magazines will still adorn my folder, something that will make me remember that, from time to time, I can also get dressed like the important people. Enthusiasm, this is the word; the rest does not matter.
